Our initial design including a back (picnic table) where we attach reused plastic bottles to. We wanted to separate the different kinds of plants that we were producing. We don't really need any materials except the seeds, because we are bringing in reused plastic bottles and we are using a picnic table which was already available to us. The only materials we need are something to help attach the bottles onto the picnic table, which we were thinking some kind of wire or string. We think we can figure it out ourselves.

we got our design idea from this above picture, but we ended up using gatorade bottles because we couldn't find enough two liter bottles and we kept them standing straight up. 

For our vertical garden, we originally planned to build a freestanding T-shaped structure that would balance plants like a mobile. We did not have our material list in time for Jon to go to Home Depot and get what we wanted but in the end it worked out. Since we didn't have an initial material list, we had to make due with what was already there. Jon had left over supplies so now we are going to build a different free standing structure. We jumped around with few ideas, like getting a soda bottle and cutting holes in it, or even manipulating a fence like structure to hold up plants, but those ideas were to no avail. Our first prototype design was a wooden post with metal bolts that would hug around the wooden post which would also hold up either plastic or smaller wooden beams. Those beams, in turn, would hold up the plant-pots with string or metal wire. It is going to be based on an 8 foot tall wooden post that will have holes drilled into the side. These holes will house tubing that will come out the side and plants will be hanged on them. Each tube pole will be coming out a different direction and also be a different size for uniqueness and variety. We decided that would be overly complicated, so we simplified it.

Our Final Product!

Our hope for what our vertical garden would be like, turned into our accomplishment.  In our design, we had a piece of wood that would come out of the ground standing up.  evenly spaced, PVC poles would come out of the sides of the wood.  On each end of the PVC are our plants.  The PVC poles aren't going in the same direction each level.  We gave it a bit of character by rotating them around so the plants weren't right on top of each other.

yo wus good mah bloggies call me the flogger bogger. recently we worked on our vertical garden, its not looking so hot. we watered took pictures and videos of our lovely garden. the plants are growing but faded. and we took out the bottom plant because of dat cursed groundhog.

For our group we are using the back of a pick nick table as a structure. We are then drilling holes in Gatorade bottles which will be what we put the plants in. Jon it is going great! we have so many flowers and vegetables !

Initial Designs

Project Overview
-This project is an experiment in gardening that we can use to build an interesting and cooperative structure that can contain a series of plants.

-Because this is a chance to design and build something that is entirely our own and get experience with both gardening and construction.

-We will be building the equivalent of a bunk bed with a plant bed for basil being supported over a plant bed for lettuce.

Our Garden
-Our bunk bed will be four feet long and four feet high overall. There will be 2 feet between each bed and the beds themselves will be one foot tall each.
